PANJIM: The Corporation of the City of Panjim meeting witnessed heated arguments over the issue of ‘donations’ being received by the CCP as well as works being completed through the generosity of private contractors with Mayor Surendra Furtado and leader of the opposition panel Vaidehi Naik calling each other “failures” and “complete failures”, respectively.
It began with councillor Kabir Makhija congratulating the Mayor for completing the refurbishing of the Corporation hall as well as repairing the footpath through the help of a private contractor.
At this Naik stood up and questioned the mayor about receiving such favours from private parties and demanded that he account for it.
“Are you jealous about the works I have got done? What did you do during your tenure? You were a failure,” Surendra Furtado retorted adding that he was forced to go this way because the Government of Goa did not give the promised funds amounting to over Rs 110 crore, by way of budget allocation.
This infuriated the opposition which in turn called him useless and being unable to do anything for the people of Panjim. “What you have done is only for the Corporation building. You have done nothing for the people of Panjim. You are a complete failure,” Naik retorted.
