Merces Deputy Sarpanch Yatin Palyekar claimed to have been threatened with dire consequences by a resident from Vaddy-Merces on Sunday.
In his complaint, Deputy Sarpanch Palyekar told Old Goa Police that a person from Vaddy came to his business place at Dovornem-Merces and started abusing him with filthy language.
The complaint further stated that the accused tried to assault the deputy sarpanch with a koita. Previous enmity is suspected behind the motive of the accused.
Old Goa Police have registered an offence against the accused under Sections 504, 352 and 506 of IPC.
Speaking to Herald, Deputy Sarpanch Palyekar informed that the recent campaign of the panchayat against the illegality could be the reason behind the attack.
