PANJIM: While advising MGP to take some serious political decision with regards their alliance with the BJP, the Congress party on Tuesday said the Goa Forward party (GFP) could face a big blow in the coming State assembly election, if they continue their association with the saffron political outfit.
Congress party foresees dissolution of State Assembly by January 12, 2019.
Addressing media persons, Congress spokesperson Ramakant Khalap said the credibility of MGP leaders is at stake following High Court dismissing their petition seeking disqualification of two former Congress MLAs- Subhash Shirodkar and Dayanand Sopte, who joined BJP in October.
“MGP in their petition claimed that BJP resolved to unfair practices by robbing away two Congress MLAs. If you (MGP) believe that their major partner (BJP) resolved to unfair practices, then why do you want to continue with them? MGP leaders’ credibility is at stake here. MGP needs to take some serious decision if they are really serious about their political future,” Khalap said.
While disposing off the petition, High Court imposed a Rs One lakh fine on the petitioner. “Rather than giving deadlines, just get out of this coalition,” Khalap advised.
Further, claiming the so called “Goenkarpon” theory is totally eroded, Khalap said that GFP will face major blow in the future assembly election, if they continue their association with BJP.
“I don’t find any reason for GPF to continue in the current political set up,” he said adding ‘what we could foresee is January 12, 2019, when the third bridge of river mandovi will be inaugurated, is also the day for State Assembly dissolution’.
MGP and GFP are alliance partners in the Manohar Parrikar led BJP government.
