MGP withdraws from govt
PANJIM: Few minutes before BJP-MGP could officially announce its pre-poll alliance for the Assembly elections, Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) on Sunday morning withdrew its support to the Congress-led coalition government in the State.
Talking to reporters, MGP President Deepak Dhavalikar said the decision has been taken as per a resolution passed by the MGP Central committee.
He said that the letters stating withdrawal from the government has been forwarded to Governor K Sankaranarayanan, Assembly Speaker Pratapsing Rane and Chief Minister Digambar Kamat.
“Though it was known that we would pull out from government, official letters have been sent today morning,” Dhavalikar said.
While, last month Deepak had resigned as Chairman of the state-run Kadamba Transport Corporation, MGP’s lone Minister Ramakrishna alias Sudin Dhavalikar had resigned on Thursday, February 2.
Withdrawing its support, Dhavalikar said that the party took the decision to go with BJP as it was public demand and as people are against Congress party, which is termed as ‘most corrupt’.
