Margao: Going by the crime statistics in South Goa, migrants are the perpetrators of most heinous crime namely murder. Of the 13 murder cases registered in South Goa, 11 were committed by migrants.While three cases of murder were registered at Margao Town, Colva and Cuncolim Police Stations one murder each was registered at Ponda, Cuncolim, Fatorda and Verna Police stations.
The case registered at Ponda is still under investigation as the murdered lady has not been identified as yet. The lady was killed on the hillock next to the KTC bus stand and her body dumped in a trench and covered with leaves.
Curchorem Police have literally solved the murder of Sucorrina Fernandes who was killed on 6th July and are waiting to nab the culprit who is absconding since the day the murder was committed and he is aided by the fact that he is a person used to living in the forests.
Of the two cases registered at Margao Town Police stations in one case the accused and deceased are Goan while in the other both the accused and deceased are migrants. The second case occurred on 6th October 2018 when 22 year old Satish Koli from Madhya Pradesh assaulted his roommate Shavir Khan also from Madhya Pradesh and was arrested while trying to flee Goa. Both were living in a rental premises and the land owner had not filled their stranger forms with the police.
The case involving Goans was the one where Francisco Fernandes stabbed youngster Liston Colaco who was sitting with his friends near the canal at Dramapur on 27th March 2018.
Migrants were involved in all the three cases registered at Colva Police Station. In the first case 21 year old Aman Kavitiya originally from Gujarat but born in Pune murdered 51 year old Baptisto Roy D’Costa from Colva at the Lover’s Beach in Betalbatim and stole his gold chain, gold bracelet and three finger rings along with Rs. 9,900 and 200 dollars. The case is charge-sheeted.
In the second case involving labourers working at the construction site at Karle Properties in Benaulim 20 year old Dinesh Goud from Odisha killed his maternal uncle 21 year old Chandra Goud also from Odisha on 10th May 2018 by hitting him on his face and other parts of the body following a dispute over cooking food. The case is charge-sheeted.
In the third case again involving labourers involved on a construction site at Varca-Fatrade road IgnasiousMinj from Simdega in Jharkhand hit Thadeus Bara from Sakariatand Jharkhand on his face with an object causing his death. The case is charge-sheeted.
Of the three murder cases registered at Curchorem Police Station the accused in one is yet to be arrested while in one case both the accused and the deceased were Goans and the accused have been arrested. However the case is under appeal before the High Court as the State has challenged the trial court order of converting the charge of murder into that of culpable homicide.
In the grievous murder of BasurajBarki who was strangulated on 2nd April and his body was cut into pieces to fit in empty rice bags which were then thrown away in the forest of Dudhsagar, of the five murderers three were migrants while two were migrants settled in Goa for a long time.
Basuraj was murdered by his wife Kalpana with the help of Suresh Kumar Solanki from Rajasthan, Aditya Gajjar from Delhi along with Abdul Karim Shaikh from Nagmodem and Pankaj Pawar from Aquem. In fact Aditya was arrested in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh and the case is charge-sheeted.
In the case registered at Cuncolim police station 18 year old Santosh Bag and 20 year old Dyneshwar Bag both from Sudargath Odisha killed 25 year old Pratap Singh also from Odisha on 24th August on the trawler that was anchored at Cutbona jetty.
Fatorda Police arrested 29 year old SidalingappaBisand from Bijapur in Karnataka for murdering a migrant lady near the Horizon Hospital at Pajifond in Margao on 17th October night while Verna Police arrested Vijay Kerkatta from Simdega in Jharkhand for killing 23 year old Umesh Dungdung from the same place in Jharkhand by smashing a laterite stone on his head. Both these case are yet to be charge-sheeted.
In fact the new year began with Verna police station registering a murder case against Vinay Kerketta from Jharkhand for killing 24 year old Roshan Kachhap from Ranchi in Jharkhand. Vinay was arrested the next day and the case is charge-sheeted.
