He was reacting to a Herald report that government officers from civil supplies office and excise department were attending typing classes at an institute in Vasco during office hours.
“I will meet Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Wednesday and will urge him to initiate action against the erring officers.”
“I will also request Parrikar to install finger-scanning machines in both these offices, to ensure that officers and other government employees are present during work hours to provide efficient services to the people and the government,” stated Naik.
“Installing such machines will not only deter them from doing their personal work during office hours, but it will also be a help to the public to find officers on their desks,” added Naik.
The minister, however, admitted that he was not in a position to keep a check on each and every government employee in Vasco. “The government employees should realize that they should work judiciously without putting the general public to hardship,” he said.
When contacted, Vasco MLA and KTC Chairman Carlos Almeida sent an SMS replying that he was busy at a meeting. When efforts were made to contact Almeida on his mobile for the second time at about 7.30 pm, he failed to respond to the call.
Efforts have been stepped up to install finger-scanning machines at key government offices in Vasco, following the successful implementation of the finger-scanning machines at the Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC).
It may be recalled that employees at MMC had been found reporting late to duty, prompting the council to install finger-scanning machine in the council office about a year-and-half back.
