PANJIM: The much awaited Mining Leases allotment policy would be finally tabled before the State Cabinet on September 30 for approval, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar promised Thursday.
“The policy is ready. It would be placed before the Cabinet for approval next Tuesday,” Parrikar told media persons, Thursday afternoon.
Following the Supreme Court directive, State government has drafted the policy on granting leases. The new policy would be an expansion of existing Goa Mineral Policy 2013. The policy is likely to classify all 360-mining leases (valid before September 10, 2012) into three categories based on their status.
Last month, the chief minister announced that by September 20 the mining policy would be out. The deadline was later postponed to September 30.
Parrikar had also said that by October 15, at least 27 mining leases would be granted and that mining operations would resume by January 2015.
