PORVORIM: Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant is yet to take a decision on shifting the IIT-Goa from Guleli following a demand from Valpoi MLA Vishwajit Rane, but there are already offers of space for the institute from other MLAs.

Curchorem MLA and Power Minister Nilesh Cabral said he would welcome the project in his constituency if the government decides to shift it.
In a strongly-worded letter, Rane has sought that the IIT-Goa project at Guleli be shifted following protests from the locals and the increasing support to the agitators. The Chief Minister has refused to comment on this so far.
However, there has been a clamour to get the project back to Sanguem-Curchorem where it was earlier scheduled to come up.
“I am ready to welcome the project if the CM and the government decide. Earlier, 9 lakh sq metres of land had been earmarked for the project but there was a small delay due to land acquisition,” he said and added, “In between one minister said there was enough government-owned land in Sattari and we can shift the IIT there right away.”
He refused to name the minister saying he does not want to blame anyone but it was a collective decision of the cabinet to shift the IIT there. “There are a few issues in Sanguem-Curchorem also but I will meet the people and resolve the issue personally. I will welcome the prestigious project,” he said.
