PANJIM: Goa’s daily new COVID-19 cases have remained almost constant with just a slight increase over the past three days, with the positivity rate touching 36 per cent on Saturday.

In last 24 hours, a total of 1647 new patients were detected with COVID-19, as against 1,625 reported on Friday at a positivity rate of 32 per cent. On Thursday, 1,582 patients had tested positive for the infection.
However, the daily recoveries have outnumbered the new cases, in the last one week, thus bringing down the active cases tally to below 19,000.
As per the bulletin issued by the Directorate of Health Services (DHS), of the 4581 samples tested, 1647 were detected with COVID, taking the total coronavirus caseload to 1,44,839.
The recoveries continued to be on the higher side with 2693 patients getting discharged. As on date, 85.79 per cent of the total patients have recovered, that is 1,24,255. As such, the total active case tally further dropped and stood at 18,243.
Margao continued to remain the major hotspot with 1849 active cases as on Saturday, followed by 997 in Panjim, 953 in Chimbel, 924 in Ponda, 839 in Cansaulim, Cortalim has 751 and 699 in Pernem and Porvorim, respectively. While Vasco has 670 active patients, Betki and Curtorim both have reported 598 active cases.
On Saturday, 39 more patients succumbed to the infection taking the total death toll to 2342. Of these, 19 deaths were reported in Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC), 14 in South Goa District hospital and two at primary health centre Dharbandora. There are three deaths reported in South Goa private hospital.
DHS said that two deceased had received their first shot of vaccine and one had taken both.
