MARGAO: In an interesting development, the Cuncolim Municipal Chief Officer, Pandarinath Naik on Friday requested the Cuncolim police to conduct investigations into the missing ‘draft report’ compiled by the Special Audit constituted by the government to find out the unaccounted civic funds to the tune of Rs 40 lakh.
It is learnt that the special audit had prepared the draft report on the unaccounted funds and a copy of the report was kept in the Municipal building which according to the chief officer went missing on Friday.
The Chief Officer also forwarded a copy of his report to the Director of Municipal Administration, Elvis Gomes for information and necessary action.
The DMA told Herald that it’s indeed shocking if the draft report has gone missing from the premises of the Cuncolim Municipality. “This is indeed a grave and serious matter. If a draft report of the special audit can go missing from the Municipal office. The government has taken serious cognisance of the incident,” Elvis said, while saying that appropriate action will be initiated if the draft report has gone missing from the civic body.
Chief Officer Pandarinath Naik pointed that he has requested the Cuncolim police to investigate as to how the draft report could go missing when both the Municipal building gate and the door is locked. “Though the draft report is copied on a pen drive, I want the matter to be investigated as to how the draft copy of the report has gone missing from the building,” he said
The government had constituted the special audit to investigate into a complaint that funds to the tune of Rs 40 lakh does not reflect in the cash books and accounts of the civic body.
The matter is also being investigated by the Anti-Corruption Bureau after the government forwarded the complaint for necessary action.
