MARGAO: After receiving the report from the Survey Department, the Margao Municipal officials began the demarcation of the land allotted for Kabrastan, on Wednesday. As always there was a lot of hue and cry over the issues pertaining to the land with a group of people opposing to the demarcation work.
The demarcation work may go on for days together as the task is to demarcate over 30,000 sq.mts of land. The survey department had conducted a survey to ascertain the locations of the land after it was alleged that the land falls in Raia Fabrica and not within the Margao Municipal boundaries. After surveying the land earmarked for the kabrastan, the survey department concluded that the land comes within the MMC boundaries. Accordingly, the work of demarcation of land has now begun.
Minor altercation between Raia locals and the officers occurred after the locals questioned the officials why they were not consulted before the demarcation. MMC Assistant Engineer replied, “We will survey and demarcate the land and submit the report and that is our duty. You can exercise your right and raise a query on the further stages.”
He also claimed that notices have been sent to all the stakeholders. The demarcation survey went on till late evening on Wednesday and will continue further.
The Raiakaars though claim that the land is ecologically and topographically important to the area and can’t be cut and developed this way. “We are not against having a kabrastan, but it is not the way and the place it is being done,” said Raia Panch Xavier Fernandes.
