VASCO: The Mormugao Municipal Council on Thursday launched online tax payment facility for the benefit of residents of the port town so as to reduce hassles of manual tax payment.
The facility is provided in association with Kotak Mahindra Bank. A mobile app will also be launched shortly to further facilitate online payment of taxes.
After officially launching online tax payment facilities, MMC Chairperson Deepak Naik told reporters that with the new facility introduced by the civic body, citizens would now be able to pay house tax online and without any hassle.
“For the first time in Goa, the online payment of taxes will not cost a single rupee extra in the form of service charge to the bank. People will have to pay only the actual value of the house tax. Also, in the month of March, when people come in large number to pay house tax, they had to stand in queue and it was annoyance to the public as well as the staff. This new system will really benefit people,” Naik said.
The facility was launched by Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida in presence of MMC Chief Officer Deepali Naik and Chairperson Deepak Naik.
“The council is working as a team and this is benefiting the citizens of Vasco. Good initiatives are taken for the betterment of the municipality,” Almeida said.
Kotak Mahindra Bank official, Prajwal Gandhi said, “This is just a beginning and very soon we will be launching a mobile app for the municipality free of cost for the online payments through mobiles as large number of people today have been using smart phones and within a minute they would be able to pay the taxes directly to the bank.”
