MMC to cart away rejects from Sonsodo

The Margao Municipal Council has agreed to cart away the rejects from the Sonsodo dump yard, but is expecting Fomento to further segregate the plastic waste for recycling.
A Municipal sanitary team visited the Sonsodo site on Friday for first-hand information about the rejects lying unattended by the Civic body. MMC Chairperson Savio Coutinho told newsmen that information suggests that whatever rejects that have accumulated at the site would be lifted by the Civic body.
He, however, made it amply clear that Fomento would have to further screen and segregate the soiled plastic before the same is termed as rejects.
The MMC Chairperson this morning deputed the Municipal sanitary team headed by the sanitary inspector Viraj Arabekar to the site to ascertain the factual position on the rejects.
This follows the letter received from Fomento stating that even though rejects have piled up at the dumping yard, the Civic body is yet to clear the rejects as mandated by the Request for Proposal.
“As stated earlier, there’s no question of the Civic body shying away from the responsibility of clearing the rejects. But, we wanted to first ascertain the nature of rejects and whether or not soiled plastic waste is part of the rejects”, Coutinho added.
