MARGAO: Margao Municipal Council (MMC) chief officer Ajit Panchwadkar said since the financial year ends on June 30 the civic body will prepare a supplementary budget for three months. The MMC has taken steps to start the normal functioning of its offices.
MMC chief officer Ajit Panchwadkar has informed that though the MMC has no problem as far as funds are concerned, he said that its functioning has to start.

Panchwadkar said he has issued an order to the Engineering Section to function normally and resume regular duties.
“I have also directed the Births and Deaths section to begin regular duties and Taxation has also been instructed to start working and accept taxes and fees,” he said.
“I have made it clear that the Accounts Section will be held responsible for any revenue loss to the municipality,” he said and informed that MMC has incurred a revenue loss of 10-11 days but the major chunk of revenue in form of taxes, fees, licences still remains to be collected.
“We have given salaries as we have sufficient funds. However the collection is temporarily not happening but it will subsequently start and revenue will be recovered,” he added.
“Since the financial year ends on June 30, we will have to prepare a supplementary budget for three months. Due to the lockdown and social distancing norms, it was impossible for the MMC to plan and hold annual budget meetings. The budget meeting will be held subsequently after the financial year ends,” he informed.
