VASCO: The Mormugao Municipal Council has decided to stop heavy vehicles from plying to and fro Mormugao Port through Vasco’s roads, during the weeklong Saptah celebrations starting from August 8.
The decision, if implemented, would be of immense relief to the people visiting Vasco during annual fair as the otherwise choked roads would have witnessed the excess burden of visitors’ cars.
This was decided at a meeting of all stakeholders called by the MMC on Monday to ensure smooth and peaceful Saptah celebration in Vasco. The weeklong celebrations will end on August 14.
“There will be no major loss if heavy vehicles stop plying for these seven days. As there is no guarantee that these transporters would ply under prescribed speed limits and the rash driving could prove to be fatal for the crowd, informed chairperson Deepak Naik.
