VASCO: The Mormugao Municipal Council will take up the Geographic Information Survey of two wards in MMC on pilot basis. The MMC claims to have a whopping Rs 40 crores as outstanding revenues in form of various taxes and fees and now plans to recover it through survey.
The Chief Officer of MMC Agnelo Fernandes informed that a meeting was held to discuss the matter of the GIS survey of the Vasco town and it has been agreed to outsource the same through a tender. “Through the GIS we plan to find out how many are paying and how many are evading the taxes, fees and other payable. The tender will be floated for the survey and an expense of at least Rs 2 to 3 lakh is expected”, said Chief Officer Agnelo. The Chief Officer also informed that the MMC today stares at a Rs. 40 crores outstanding figures from all heads.
The Chairperson of MMC, Kritesh Gaonkar, said, “The assessment of houses hasn’t been done since the year 1970. We need to boost our revenue and this assessment will help the cause. People in fact want assessment of houses”, said Kritesh. “I am going to put this to the council on priority and get it resolved”, he added.
In the past the Mapusa and Margao Municipal Council have taken up these surveys. The Margao Municipality managed to scratch some of their outstanding revenues through the survey and information. But not much is on record on what the Mapusa Municipal Council managed to get except for discoveries of some lands of their Municipality.
