A Goa Police team probing high-value house break-ins in Porvorim and Mapusa faced a violent am bush in Madhya Pradesh when a mob attempted to free a key accused dur ing transit, turning a rou tine escort into a risky operation. The dramatic incident unfolded on Thursday evening in the Bori police station limits of Alirajpur district. While escorting the arrested suspect back af ter completing formalities, the police vehicle was in tercepted by villagers who allegedly pelted stones and surrounded the team in an attempt to snatch the ac cused from custody. The ve hicle sustained damage and a policeman suffered minor injuries in the attack. The situation was brought under control only after local police rushed reinforcements to the spot, allowing the Goa Police team to safely secure the accused and continue the transfer.
Police said the arrested man, identified as Hiras ingh Bamniya (38), is the alleged mastermind behind two major burglaries in North Goa involving prop erty worth over Rs 41 lakh. Porvorim Police had reg istered a case on January 23 after a flat at Devashri Greens was burgled be tween January 6 and 22, with gold ornaments and cash worth Rs 6 lakh stolen. Around the same period, Mapusa Police registered another case involving a theft of valuables worth Rs 35 lakh from a residence at Prudential Palms. Investigations led police to Bahadiya village in Alira jpur district, where Bamni ya was traced and arrested following a one-kilometre chase through jungle ter rain. Police described him and his associates as habit ual offenders involved in multiple theft cases across the country. After his arrest, Bamniya was produced before the JMFC Court at Jobat for transit remand.
