PANJIM: The State government is planning to install mobile toilets at various construction sites and slum clusters to achieve 100 percent open defecation-free (ODF) tag.
Labour Minister Rohan Khaunte met with Goa Labour Welfare Board and Goa Building and other Construction Welfare Board to review schemes available for labourers.
Speaking to media persons on Wednesday, Khaunte said it is the vision of Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar that under the ‘Swacch Bharat campaign’, the State has to be ODF. “I can say that maximum open defecation comes from construction sites, where labourers are engaged in large numbers. So we are trying to put in place mobile toilets at the site to overcome open defecation issue,” the Minister said.
Khaunte pointed out that mobile toilets are also required in slum clusters, where the labourers reside.
The Minister said that during the meeting with the respective labour boards, it was observed that the schemes are not reaching the beneficiaries. “We have now analysed the gap and issued directions to ensure that the schemes are implemented,” he said. “We need to also promote labour friendly environment in the State,” he added.
The Retrenched Workers Assistance Scheme, reconstitution of sub-committee for scheme, procurement of software for the office of Goa Labour Welfare Board, implementation of VII Pay Commission to the staff of Goa Labour Welfare Board, were the main points discussed in the meeting held on Tuesday.
