PANJIM: The 17-member committee on Medium of Instruction (MoI) has said that it is in the process of asking another extension of three weeks from the State government in order to complete the pending two meetings and for preparing the report.
This would be the fourth extension the committee is preparing to ask from the government after failing to meet the previous deadlines.
Speaking to Herald, Member of MoI committee, Nagaraj Honnekari said, “The three-month extension given to the MoI committee expired in June. Twelve meetings of the committee have already taken place while two more are left after which everything will be combined and a report will be prepared and for this the committee requires another three weeks time for which we are in the process of asking for another extension from the state government.”
It may be recalled that the state government had granted a third extension of 90 days to the 17-member committee in March 2017 as the committee in the earlier extension of 90 days given to them had failed and was unable to submit a detailed report to the government.
The state government had constituted the committee to advise on the issue of grants to English medium schools and to study the entire system of grants and financial support to govt aided schools and to improve the overall efficiency for achieving education goals.
When the panel was formed in July 2016, it was asked by to submit its report on what the medium of instruction should be at the primary school level in Goa. The deadline for the report was set for the first week of November.
However, in November 2016, the 17-member committee sought an extension of 90 days, which was granted and the report was to be submitted on February 2, 2017 but failing to do so again the committee was given another extension in March 2017 which expired in June 2017.
