SANGUEM: Molcopon Ward residents of Sanguem Constituency on Tuesday celebrated Dussehra festival without a drop of drinking water as the women folk gathered on the main road with empty utensils to press for their demands for early supply of drinking water.
Since last three days, the villagers did not get water supply and were expecting that it will be restored at least by Tuesday evening considering the festive celebration.
“Thanks to the indifferent attitude of the government officials and the elected representatives towards the villagers,” claim the elders. Though Molcopon Ward of Molcornem Village Panchayat is located barely around three kilometres from the Selaulim Water Treatment, the villagers had to literally cry for drinking water since the last three days.
With the taps totally running dried and no concrete assurance coming up from the authorities to regulate the drinking water supply in the village, the villagers particularly the women folk were compelled to travel long distances in the neighbourhood to get the water.
The water problem in the locality is allegedly on account of the old pipeline. The pipeline which is corroded is susceptible to frequent breakdowns leading to water shortage.
Incidentally, Molcopon Ward is situated barely around half a kilometre from Sanguem MLA Prasad Gaonkar residence and this made the villagers go all the more berserk as even after having their MLA in the neighbourhood, no efforts were made to regulate the drinking water supply in the village even after three days.
The villagers informed that if the water is not restored by Wednesday evening then the villagers will lead a “morcha” to the Water Supply Department.
