Taxi drivers, office bearers of various unions, and several political leaders who participated in the September protest against the hike in parking charges at Mopa Airport appeared before the Pernem Court on Monday in connection with a case registered following the agitation.
Addressing the media outside the court, representatives of the taxi drivers voiced their dissatisfaction with the government’s approach, stating that the increase in parking fees has adversely affected the livelihood of local taxi operators. They maintained that the protest was organised in the interest of protecting their rights and safeguarding the welfare of the local taxi community.

The protesters asserted that they were prepared to face legal proceedings if criminal cases were filed against them for standing up for their rights. They urged the government to seriously consider the genuine concerns and demands of taxi drivers operating at Manohar International Airport.
The taxi operators further warned that the issue would remain a significant factor during the upcoming Assembly elections and said they would take their grievances directly to the people.
The Pernem Court has posted the matter for a further hearing on a later date. Taxi unions reiterated their resolve to continue their agitation until their demands regarding parking fees and operational policies are addressed.
