CALANGUTE: In an unfortunate incident, a youth from Madhya Pradesh drowned off Calangute beach on Thursday evening.
The victim was identified as 19-year-old Vishwas Naik from Indore, Madhya Pradesh.
Calangute PI Jivba Dalvi said that a group of eight friends had come to Goa on a vacation. On Thursday evening at around 6.30 pm, they entered the sea water at Calangute beach when a strong wave pulled three of them inside the water. However, two managed to swim back to the shore while the victim drowned.
The Calangute police immediately registered a missing report and launched a search operation overnight to trace the victim. The body was found floating in the water off Baga beach at around 9 am on Friday. The body was fished out and confirmed to be that of Vishwas Naik by his family members.
Calangute PI informed that the rough sea was responsible for this incident. The body has been sent for autopsy.
