VASCO: After hosting vessels of various categories, shapes and sizes, the Mormugao Port Trust (MPT) is all set to welcome a luxury yacht along with 200 tourists at the port for the first time on October 27.
“This is for the first time that a luxury yacht will be anchored at the MPT and we are going to make this an annual feature during the tourist season in Goa,” said MPT Chairman P Mara Pandiyan, while talking to Herald.
“We have requested the state government to give the best possible reception to the tourists by welcoming them in a traditional manner and by presenting a Goan traditional and folk dance on their arrival at the port. The government has agreed to our request. The tourists will spend the day sightseeing and will leave for Mangalore port in the evening,” he added.
Pandiyan informed that the yacht had left from the Gulf and will visit the Mumbai port, before arriving at the MPT on October 27.
Commenting on the arrival of cruise liners during the season, Pandiyan said around 25 cruise liners have already confirmed their arrival. “The first cruise liner of the season will arrive by mid-November. The cruise season starts by mid-November and will end by mid-May next year,” he said.
“According to this year’s MPT calendar, the MPT has taken cruise tourism as the main theme and will continue presenting Goan cultural programs to tourists when cruise liners arrive at the Port.”
“This year, some cruise liners have sought permission to stay overnight at the port and all security arrangements are being made for the safety of the tourists,” said Pandiyan.
