According to the Mumbai police, the modus operandi was that by using these falsified marriage certificates, the freigners were getting married to Indian nationals so as to obtain permanent Indian visas.

Shanti Naik was on the run since August 2021 after the OCI Wing of Mumbai police registered a case against her and her Canadian national husband Daniel Harris Akelar. Another couple Jyoti Vishe and her ‘fake’ UK husband David John Lincoln are also named in the FIR. Police are on the lookout of the trio.
