The Chinchinim-Deussa panchayat, in collaboration with its Biodiversity Management Committee (BMC) , Zonal Agriculture Office (AAP) Margao, and Agriculture Technology Management Agency (ATMA) – South Goa, conducted a training programme on mushroom cultivation to encourage sustainable farming and income diversification.
The session, led by Agriculture Officer Gauri Prabhudessai, drew participation from local farmers, youth, and self-help group members. Prabhudessai provided practical guidance on species selection, substrate preparation, cultivation techniques, pest management, and post-harvest care. Youth participants also received hands-on training in bag filling.

ATMA’s Jiselle Reveredo highlighted the health and economic benefits of mushrooms and assured support to those interested in setting up mushroom farms.
The programme aimed to equip the community with the knowledge and skills needed to adopt mushroom cultivation as a viable agro-based livelihood. Organisers said the initiative contributes to both biodiversity conservation and rural development.
Sarpanch Frank Viegas thanked the participants and reaffirmed the panchayat’s commitment to supporting such capacity-building efforts in the future.
