MARGAO: Mystery shrouds Tuesday’s election to the Margao Municipal Chairperson after the ruling group’s candidate Gonzaco Rebello made it to the top seat with 12 votes, when the group enjoyed the support of only 10 members.
After winning the election, Gonzaco posed for a photograph with his 10-member group of councillors, leaving many to speculate in the corridors of the Civic body as to the identity of the two City Fathers who extended their support to Gonzaco.
The voting pattern gives clear indication that there was cross voting from the opposition side to the ruling group, which had the blessings of the local BJP leadership.
“It is very clear as to who has cross-voted in the election. Things will be clear within the next few days,” remarked an opposition councillor, refusing to give any more details of his suspicions into the identity of the two cross voters from the opposition who voted in favour of Gonzaco.
