PONDA: The Ponda Kranti Maidan was renovated by the MGP-BJP led government spending round Rs 3.5 crore but Pondaites were surprised to see the original name plaques used for the martyrs’ memorial dumped in front of the block of toilets for the past two days.
The original foundation stone name plaque was laid at the Kranti Maidan martyrs memorial in 1991 by the then Defence Minister Sharad Pawar along with the then Goa chief minister Ravi Naik, Subash Shirodkar and later inaugurated in 1996 by the then chief minister Pratapsing Rane.
Before renovation work in 2013 the original name plaque was visible to visitors just in front of the martyrs’ memorial but it was missing from the site after renovation commenced in 2013. Just two days back, some Pondaites were taken by surprise to see original name plaques dumped in a corner covered in dust near the toilet blocks.
