Residents of Naquerim–Betul in Canacona have voiced strong opposition to a proposed aerosports project planned over nearly 2,45,000 square metres, citing threats to the environment and local livelihoods.
Villagers allege that several projects have been introduced in the area without adequately consulting the community or elected representatives. The proposed aerosports initiative has further intensified these concerns, as the identified land is reportedly part of a biodiversity-rich zone.

The Deputy Sarpanch warned that the project could pose significant risks not only to residents but also to the local wildlife. He emphasized that such large-scale development could disrupt the ecological balance and result in long-term environmental damage.
Locals also claimed that the land was allocated by the Investment Promotion Board without conducting a public hearing or properly presenting project details to the village panchayat or residents. This has led to growing resentment among villagers, who feel excluded from decisions directly affecting their lives.
The issue was raised at the state level by Alton D’Costa during the last Assembly session. However, residents say no official response has yet been communicated to the panchayat.
In protest, villagers have undertaken several initiatives, including awareness campaigns and a signature drive submitted to local authorities. Despite these efforts, they claim their concerns remain unaddressed.
Residents of Naquerim–Betul are now demanding that the government withdraw the project, stressing the need to protect their village, environment, and rich biodiversity.
