MARGAO: Objecting to the directive of the Directorate of Education permitting Indus Towers Limited to erect towers for mobile connectivity in the government primary school in Navelim, the residents and parishioners of Our Lady of Rosary Church submitted a signature petition on Thursday to the Education Director opposing the move.
Through the petition, the parishioners said they strongly oppose and condemn the rider and demand that the same be revoked immediately.
“Vide your referred order, it is mentioned that Indus Towers Limited is permitted to erect towers for mobile connectivity in the government primary school in the village of Navelim, Salcete. Further it is also mentioned therein that while the company may only erect towers, the land will remain in the possession of the Directorate of Education,” reads the petition.
The locals claimed that the two structures that house the primary school located in the jurisdiction of the village panchayat of Navelim are not owned by the Directorate of Education and also pointed out that the order did not specify the exact location of the primary school.
