PANJIM: While Speaker Pratapsingh Rane has dismissed the disqualification petition against Churchill Alemao and Reginaldo Lourenco, he hasn’t made up his mind on the disqualification petition filed against Dhavalikar brothers.
Congress Calangute MLA Agnelo Fernandes had filed a disqualification petition against MGP legislators, Ramkrishna Dhavlikar and Pandurang Dhavlikar in 2007.
Agnelo, in his petition under anti-defection law, had stated that Dhavalikars had defied party diktat and withdrawn support to Congress government and aligned with the BJP.
When asked what is the status of that petition speaker said, “I am still going through it and since I am busy with other things, I could not take it up.”
However, with just a month of this assembly’s tenure remaining it is very unlikely that the petition will be disposed.
When asked whether the petition could be heard by the next assembly speaker, he replied in the negative.
“No it does not continue and has to be settled in this tenure itself,” he said.
