SANGUEM, MARCH 7
The urge to enjoy a second swim proved costly, when a 42-year-old man from Nessai was feared drowned in a river at Boilapar-Sanguem on Saturday morning.
According to sources, Simon Cardozo and three friends had gone for a picnic at Boilapar. After a swim, they were to leave the site, when another group of friends, also from Nessai, joined Cardozo’s group and requested them to stay a little longer.
Cardozo and his friends agreed to their request and Cardozo joined the new group for a second swim.
Cardozo, however, failed to ascertain the depth of the river and disappeared into the river.
Though the incident took place at about 2.30 pm, the fire services reached the site only late evening and could not trace Cardozo.
As fate would have it, Cardozo, who leaves behind his wife and three minor children, was to leave for the Gulf on Monday, informed sources from Cardozo’s family.
