CALANGUTE: The renovated office of Calangute Panchayat was inaugurated on Sunday without the presence of Calangute MLA Michael Lobo.
The new look, spacious and posh office was inaugurated by a son of Calangute, Bishop Lumen Monteiro and Joseph Sequeira in the presence of St Alex Church, Calangute, Parish Priest Fr Cipriano D’Silva, Calangute Sarpanch Geeta Parab, Deputy Sarpanch Savio Gonsalves, Panchas of Calangute and Arpora-Nagoa and villagers of Calangute. Lobo was however not invited for the inaugural function.
Congratulating the Calangute Panchayat and wishing them good luck, Bishop Monteiro hoped that the office will benefit the villagers of Calangute and provide service to the community more effectively.
Sequeira agreeing with the Church heads said, “We have plans to get rid of the traffic jams haunting Calangute and hopefully everything will fall in place in the days to come.”
He sought co-operation of the villagers and authorities to overcome the major problem. Sequeira also sought co-operation of the villagers over cleanliness drive by the panchayat in view of dust bins being distributed for collection of wet and dry garbage separately.
A short prayer service was conducted before the opening.
