PANJIM: Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Monday announced that a new scheme would be launched by December end, wherein financial assistance of upto Rs 1 lakh would be given to a person with disability for purchase of aids/appliances that would help him/her to upgrade their skills and lead a normal life.
A person with 40 percent and above disability would be covered under the scheme, Parrikar told media persons. “It would be an umbrella scheme, under which financial assistance upto Rs 1 lakh would be provided for purchase of aids, instruments, etc,” he said.
Cases with 35 percent disability could be considered under the scheme as exceptional cases, provided doctors certify that the financial assistance would help the person to lead a normal life, the Chief Minister said while speaking after handing over electronic wheel chair from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund to Shreyes Totekar from Mardol.
Social Welfare Minister Mahadev Naik along with Shreyes family was also present at the function.
Speaking on the occasion, Naik said that the scheme has already been drafted and moved to Chief Minister for approval. Naik said that the scheme will accumulate all small schemes offered by Social welfare for disabled people.
Currently, the department of social welfare sponsors several schemes for the disabled including financial assistance for self employment, Dayanand Social Security Scheme (DSSS), conveyance allowance, assistance to disabled to purchase aids/appliances, financial assistance to
persons with severe disabilities, etc.
