MARGAO: Goa Livelihoods Forum, a not for profit organisation based in Panjim, has launched the first GLF Women’s Forum for South Goa at Curchorem and Quepem, on Saturday.
The programme was attended by over 40 women members representing the South Goa taluks namely, Canacona, Quepem, Sanguem, Dharbandora and Salcete. This will be a pan-Goa initiative identifying and converging sources of livelihood for the womenfolk in the state through direct and indirect means.
The Women’s Forum, is established to provide a platform to the women of Goa, to come together to discuss, strategise, share and learn from each other on how to grow and develop to the next level in the economic and social journey. The objective of this activity extension of GLF is to highlight women’s voices and perspectives on the pressing state issues.
GLF Women’s Forum will have two district level Forums representing South and North Goa with the North Goa Forum being launched shortly.
The meeting was chaired by retired teacher Rajini Bhembre who stated that the State is reeling with unemployment issues and the people especially women need to come forward to combat the existing distress by focusing on entrepreneurship and agriculture as a process to manage situations after the distress in tourism and the closure of mining industry.
