MARGAO: Revolutionary Goans resolved to make public aware of the Person of Goan Origin draft Bill by holding meetings in villages.
They said at the next Assembly Session they would at least endeavour to get the draft bill introduced, if not passed.
Manoj Parab of Revolutionary Goans announced this at a largely attended public meeting held at Dando grounds in Benaulim on Sunday where various speakers highlighted the problems faced by Goans in Goa which were mainly due to presence of migrants who were being backed and supported by the political class.
While complementing the people of Benaulim for successfully stopping all the illegal activities carried out by migrants in the village and driving many of them outside the village, he said the time had come to replicate this model elsewhere and said the next rally would be held in North Goa.
Aida Fernandes from Benaulim reading out a speech said migrants have encroached upon comunidade land that was meant for Goans thus usurping Goans right and have now even captured traditional Goan occupations like fish vending and driving taxis.
Seby Fernandes and Jose Fernandes explained how the battle against migrants started with Vassu Lamani threatening the people of Benaulim and that, they said, united the people of Benaulim against the illegalities carried out by the migrants.
“We closed down the 40 stalls they had erected in the village and got many of them evicted from the houses they were living in on rental basis,” said Seby who also lamented that the promised support from panchayat was not forthcoming.
Jose pointed out how people from all over Goa were praising their work and with the help of photographs destroyed Vassu’s claim of being a poor man as he owns a double storeyed bungalow and urged the people to remain united.
