Hundreds of protestors are expected to throng Arossim for the peaceful vigil.

Abhijeet Prabhudessai of Goyant Kollso Naka (GKN) said, “There will be a peaceful night vigil in which likeminded activists and social groups opposing coal in Goa will take part. The vigil is expected to continue till next morning at around 10.30 am. The event is being held to showcase people’s opposition to coal in Goa”.

When questioned whether these groups will protest before India’s President Ram Nath Kovind, who will grace the 60th Goa Liberation Day celebration in Panjim, Prabhudessai said, “There has been no definite plan but there might be a peaceful parade by some youth in the capital city in the afternoon.”

He refused to comment on whether the protestors at the “Night Vigil” are planning to block the railway track but reiterated that there is no concrete plan and the course of actions would change depending on the people’s participation in the vigil.
