PANJIM: The CSIR-National Institute of Oceanography (NIO) has collaborated with the Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (JAMSTEC) for developing an integrated understanding of the Climate, Ocean and Earth Sciences.
The NIO and JAMSTEC on Tuesday signed Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) for a period of five years by the JAMSTEC President Dr. Tadashi Matsunaga and NIO Director Prof. Sunil Kumar Singh.

As per the statement issued by NIO, the JAMSTEC has been engaged in a variety of research and development activities as one of Japan’s research institutes covering a broad spectrum of marine science and technology.
“CSIR-NIO by virtue of its systematic and focused research in the field of ocean data collection, environmental impact assessment, and ocean modeling, has maintained the highest standards in this domain too,” the statement reads.
“Hence this cooperation will now facilitate CSIR-NIO partnering JAMSTEC in the goal to develop an integrated and comprehensive understanding of the Ocean, Earth, and Life and the pursuit of ever-advanced theories to open new paradigms of research,” it said.
The MoC is the outcome of the joint coordinated efforts from Dr Kanae Komaki, International Affairs Section, JAMSTEC, Venkat K, Collaborations Desk, CSIR-NIO and Dr Anuradha Madhukar, International S&T Affairs Directorate, CSIR Headquarters.
