Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) President Luizinho Faleiro said that Congress party needs ‘Mahagathbandhan’ but within Congress leaders and not with any other party for Vasco assembly seat.
He was addressing Vasco Block Mahila Congress workers’ convention on Sunday.
“Earlier, we did not have our own candidate for Vasco, however, I am happy that in last five years Congress workers got united and strengthened the party at the grassroots level in Vasco to an extent that today the Vasco Block Congress Committee has forwarded us four names. Today, instead of supporting any other party’s candidate, our workers feel that the Congress should field their own candidate from Vasco and thus I feel that today Congress only needs ‘Mahagathbandhan’ among Congress leaders in Vasco so that unitedly Congress candidate wins the Vasco seat,” he said.
By this Faleiro wanted to make an appeal to all the aspirants of Congress ticket to get united and work for the candidate selected by the party. This was also important, as the aspirants of Congress tickets from Vasco assembly seat have claimed that they would support party candidate, whoever he/she is. There were reports that Vasco Congress had become a divided house due to ongoing race for party ticket among aspirants.
Meanwhile in his address, Faleiro also slammed BJP by calling the party a “Merchant of dreams.” He said in the last four-and-a-half years, BJP only took U-turns on all the election promises made due to which the people of Goa are today feeling that BJP has betrayed their trust.
“Political leaders from BJP now speak of getting Gujarat model in Goa, I want to tell them that we have seen Godhara model and thus we don’t need any Gujarat model in Goa. Also now some people wearing “caps” claim that they would bring the Delhi-type governance model to Goa after getting elected. I want to warn these people not to fool Goan’s by asking people to wear a cap and in turn trying to fool them.”
Opposition Leader Pratapsingh Rane while attacking BJP government said that the present BJP government is Mahishasura and it is dire need that the women from Goa should project themselves as Goddess Durga and eliminate Mahishasura by defeating BJP in forthcoming assembly polls.
Former South Goa MP Francisco Sardinha charged that BJP government failed to do anthing with regards to mining and casinos but achieved success in promoting drugs and prostitution in Goa.
