A no-confidence motion against Mormugao Municipal Council vice chairperson Ramchandra Kamat was passed by a majority of 13 votes at a meeting held in the municipal hall on Thursday.
During the meeting, councillors backing Kamat objected to the proceedings, arguing that the letter submitted to move the no-confidence motion was not in the name of any sitting councillor and that the name mentioned in the document was incorrect. On these grounds, they claimed the motion was invalid and demanded that the meeting be cancelled.

However, as the meeting had already been convened and conducted, the motion was put to vote and subsequently passed.
Reacting to the development, Ramchandra Kamat said he would approach the court to challenge the decision, maintaining that the procedure followed was flawed.
Further political developments in the Mormugao Municipal Council are expected following the passage of the motion.
