No decision to set up solar plants on dams as of now: WRD official

PANJIM: The State government is yet to take a decision on the proposal for setting up floating solar projects which are expected to generate 190 MW of power, a senior government official has said.

Speaking to O Heraldo, Pramod Badami, Chief Engineer of Water Resources Department said, “It is under consideration and no decision has been taken yet. Inter-departmental consultations are going on. This will be followed by high level decision and it will take some time as we have put up our comments.”  

SJVN Green Energy Limited (SGEL) has proposed to invest around Rs 1300 crore to generate power by setting of four floating solar projects in the state.

The plants have been proposed to be set up on four dams namely Selaulim, Amthanem, Anjunem and Chapoli. 

As per the proposal, the state is supposed to purchases the power from the public sector unit at the rate of Rs 3.8-4.3 per kWh.   Recenlty, Power Minister Ramkrishna alias Sudin Dhavalikar had informed the State Assembly that the state government has signed an MoU with Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam (SGVN) for setting up floating solar plants on various dams in the state of Goa. The SJVN has carried out sight survey and Detailed Project Report (DPR) for installation of 197 MW of solar plants at four different dams across Goa.
