No facilities, info about coronavirus at Margao railway station

MARGAO:  Despite it being brought to the attention of the authorities about the need to have tracking of passengers at the railway stations, there appears to be no screening taking place of passengers at Margao’s Konkan railway station. Considered to be a major junction for connecting inter-state trains, the station receives thousands of passengers per day. Yet, despite the global alert on coronvirus, especially at transit hubs, the railway station and Margao bus stand don’t appear to be secured with mechanism to deal with the virus.

When the Railway authorities were contacted regarding the precautionary measures, they said they have not received any communication and do not have any setup at the railway station.

KTC bus stand too which is hub for several inter-state buses also doesn’t have any mechanism to deal with patients who could be suspected to have contracted the virus.

Government sources stated that the reason why there is not much emphasis on local transport hubs is because the priority is to secure the local airport first.  The Medical Superintendent of Hospicio Hospital, Margao, Dr. Ira Almeida said, “The focus is more on the tourists coming from abroad. However, we are still keeping a close eye on all kinds of cases where symptoms match and are sending them to GMC for isolation.”
