PANJIM: Noted musician and trumpet maestro, Agnelo Dias, 65, a resident of Portais, Panjim, succumbed to injuries suffered in a fall at his residence, while receiving treatment at GMC, Bambolim.
He retired from the Electricity Department power years ago. He was most sought after trumpeter in tiatr circles. His short golden trumpet was his prized possession.
Agnelo along with Santaninho, a crooner, formed a band in the 70’s with upcoming musicians like Baban, Francis, Paul, Jamit, Joquim and others. They used to play for weddings and dances. Later, Agnelo ventured into tiatr, besides his immense contribution as a choir master at Immaculate Conception Church, Panjim. He was honoured with the State Cultural Award in 2013. He has performed with noted musicians like C P Dias and Luis Cotta.
He is survived by his widow, a son and a daughter. His funeral will be on March 10. The Tiatr Academy of Goa has condoled and expressed their sympathies to the bereaved family.
