The committee has decided to write to Goa University to instead bring down the attendance percentage to 60 to appear for exams.
“We do not support 75 per cent attendance to qualify to answer the exams. A memorandum to GU will soon be sent wherein we will demand 60 per cent attendance,” President Ahraz Mulla said at a press briefing.
The 21-member committee also plans to deal with drug abuse within the campus, ragging in institutions, harassment and internet neutrality among other issues.
Mulla said the committee will soon meet to chalk out plans to deal with the issues and create awareness on the do’s and don’ts. “All issues affecting the students’ community will be tackled,” he said, adding that they also demand setting up counselling centres across all colleges in the wake of recent suicides and suicidal attempts by a few students.
NSUI is soon to launch an app where students will be at liberty to post their grievances and other related issues. However, the members are not certain about their view on the entry of youth in casinos. The President merely said, “If students are affected, we will take up the issue.”
The committee formed by drawing students from 19 colleges claims to have enrolled 5000-odd members this year, over 2,000 more than in 2014.
