“We are still gauging the situation and are in the process of setting up volunteers at the booth levels. The results in Delhi were fantastic, because people were on the lookout for an alternative party. Here in Goa, we were both surprised and disturbed with the general perception of the people. Disturbed because the people were unhappy with the government but surprised that people were happy with our work,” said Gupta.
The aim now, he said, was to increase the organisation from the bottom up with volunteers already engaged in door-to-door surveys. As for targets and plans of contesting the elections, Gupta said they were far from set plans, but the party was working on choosing local persons as candidates.
“In the coming days, we will be organizing training workshops for volunteers so they get a chance to understand the workings and ideology of the party,” he said.
Issues the party would look into, they said, were related to gambling, mining, a Goa development plan, casinos and an increase in tourism targeting up market audiences. “Garbage is one of the biggest issues facing the State right now. What we would like to do is to generate a solution to work with the current government,” he added. RTI and Lokayukta were two other issues that needed to be worked on in the State, he said.
