In connection with the accident , Maina Curtorim police have booked the accused driver for causing death by negligence under Section 304-A of IPC. According to the police complaint, the accused Rajesh Tandel, a native of Karnataka and resident of Gounlloy, Nuvem, drove his tanker in a rash and negligent manner, endangering human life, while proceeding from Rumder to The Village dance floor, Nuvem. on reaching near Sisters Adorers Convent, Belloy Nuvem, he rammed into an oncoming Hero Honda CBZ motorcycle. The rider Mario Dias, (28), a resident of Fateapur, Nuvem was killed on the spot while the pillion rider Rohan Colaco was injured.
“We have demanded the installation of rumblers along NH 17 from TATA showroom in Gounlloy to Carmel College as the motorists drive their vehicles in a rash and negligent manner,” said Everson Vales.
Everson informed that the issue had been raised with the collector by the Nuvem Congress Block regarding the failure of the authorities including the panchayat to look into the same.
Gram sabha member and activist Jose Roque Andrade felt that roads in Paterpur, Anus and Kirhbhat are in need of urgent attention as the roads have turned into accident-prone zones due to increase in traffic.
On October 19, 2014, a master plan was proposed, where all village roads were to be shown with their dimensions and on the basis of infrastructure availability in the village, the project should be approved by the panchayat, he added.
“In Nuvem, the traffic problems were highlighted by various organisations with regards to NH 17 as there was no concentration on traffic problems on village roads. Now, commercial and residential complexes projects are approved by the panchayat and other authorities without considering traffic feasibility in the locality,” he added.
