Nuvem, Talaualim villagers oppose installation of mobile towers

MARGAO/PONDA: In two separate incidents, villagers from Nuvem and Talaualim villagers opposed installation of mobile towers on Monday.

The locals of Gorvotti-Nuvem have raised objections to a mobile tower that has been installed on the highway and the manner in which the tower was set up.

Holding a protest near the tower, the locals said despite their numerous complaints to the authorities and the panchayat having issued a stop-work order, the tower was

set up.

Local leader Everson Vales went on to accuse the company that installed the tower of indulging in ‘corporate goondagiri’ given that the work of installing the tower was done in the middle of the night that too with bouncers present and the security of the police.

Vales said the police should not be interfering as the matter is sub-judice at the collectorate level.

He explained that they had submitted a memorandum to the District Collector explaining all the problems with the tower and that the Collector had sent the land acquisition officer to assess the situation and had further issued directions for the matter to be placed before the appellate authority.

Vales however lamented that before the hearing with the appellate authority could take place, the cellular tower was forcefully set up.

The villagers of Wadi-Talavalim Panchayat have strongly opposed another mobile tower coming up at Mahalaxmi Nagar Talavalim.

Earlier last month, a tower was erected over Government Primary School Building despite opposition by locals and the PTA. They were unhappy as their demand to shift it away from residential and School Complex area at Bhedshem Talavalim was ignored.
