On Sunday, at the gram sabha a few villagers had raised the issue pertaining to the e-waste being generated and dumped at public places.

It is pertinent to note that e-waste has become a big issue for many villages, including the Municipalities, besides the dry and wet waste. And hence, getting rid of the e-waste has become a big challenge for the local bodies.

Sarpanch Judas Quadros, informed OHeraldO that following the complaints of villagers, the panchayat has taken this issue seriously and it has already started the process to initiate some action plan.

“I had a word with one of the experts in the field of e-waste. The Panchayat will be having a meeting with him very shortly and plans will be drawn to initiate a drive in collecting the e-waste from the jurisdiction of the Raia panchayat,” he said.

Villagers had brought to the notice of the panchayat that e-waste such as batteries and even damaged cell phones are seen dumped at the roadside causing serious ill effects.

The Sarpanch added that suggestions from the concerned villagers will also be taken into consideration to get rid of the e-waste.

“Panchayat is also in the process of identifying a suitable place for the treatment of wet waste. We will be able to tackle the wet waste generated in the village, once the place is fixed,” the Sarpanch added.
