Global oil prices declined sharply after US President Donald Trump announced that an agreement had been reached with Iran and confirmed the lifting of the US naval blockade, easing concerns over disruptions to energy supplies.
Brent crude prices fell 3.9% to around $84 per barrel, while US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude dropped 4.8% to approximately $81 per barrel. The decline pushed both benchmarks to their lowest levels since early March as geopolitical tensions in the Middle East showed signs of easing.
The announcement boosted market confidence by raising expectations that oil shipments would resume more smoothly, reducing fears of prolonged supply constraints. Investors responded positively to the prospect of improved stability in the region, leading to a rapid decline in the geopolitical risk premium that had driven prices higher in recent months.
The latest development marks a significant shift in global energy markets, which have remained volatile since the outbreak of the conflict, with traders closely monitoring progress on the proposed peace agreement and the restoration of normal oil flows.
