Oil spill at Altinho causes many motorists to fall; Panjim emergency service clear off road

An oil spill was reported on
the internal road of Altinho on Tuesday late evening. Around 7 commuters were
injured due to the oil spill. Panjim Fire and Emergency service cleared the
road by covering it with dry soil.

On Tuesday late evening
around 6.45 p.m. oil was soiled on Altinho road. As per eyewitnesses the spill
was massive, covering the entire road. The source of the oil spill is still
unknown. Motorists going down the road slipped on the road due to the oil,
experiencing a life-threatening situation. Around 4 people were injured including
2 youths, 1 lady and 1 male senior citizen. The victims sustained minor
injuries.

Upon noticing the fallen
bikes on the road, one of the commuters immediately called Panjim Fire and
Emergency Services.  The FES team arrived
on the spot within no time and began covering the road with dry soil.

“We got a distressed call
around 7 pm saying that oil has spilled at Altinho, so we hurriedly reached the
spot and began covering it with soil. Around 6 – 7 motorists have slipped but fortunately
no major injuries or damages have been reported. We believe that the oil is of
a vehicle that was spilled but we are still not sure about it yet” said FES
officer.

The fire fighters were seen
clearing the traffic in that area and alerting the ongoing commuters about the
spill.
