One assaulted for attending rally in Mapusa

A resident of Karaswado-Mapusa was allegedly assaulted for attending a rally, organized by Marlene D’Souza, who is contesting from Ward 4 of Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC) on Sunday.
In his complaint, Digo Pinto told Mapusa Police that he had attended a rally on October 24 at the request of the candidate D’Souza, who is contesting Mapusa Municipal election (MMC) from Ward 4.
The complainant further stated that when he returned home after the rally, the accused questioned him why he attended the rally. The complainant replied him that he will attend the rally of the candidate, who will request him to attend.
Irked with Pinto’s reply, the accused got annoyed and allegedly abused and assaulted him, states the complaint.
Mapusa Police sent the complainant to Asilo Hospital for medical check up. After getting the report from the hospital, Mapusa Police registered the offence against the accused under Sections 323 and 504 of IPC. Head Constable D Pednekar is investigating the case.
Meanwhile, Marlene D’Souza, who is contesting from Ward 4, told Herald that on Sunday at 3 pm, as part of election campaign, she had organized a rally around the ward, in which over 150 people participated.
The rally covered a distance of over 6 kms, around Camarcazana, Acoi, Carraswado, Peddem and Billow and culminated at her residence at about 5.45 pm.
She further informed that after the rally, she received a call from one of her supporters that he was assaulted and punched on the face and stomach by one of the boys from the opposition camp and was warned with dire consequences if complaint was lodged with the police.
“I have filed a complaint with the State Election Commissioner and Police Inspector in this regard,” said D’Souza.
